When the season started I have to say I was on Wenger’s side. I wanted nothing more than for him to prove everybody wrong, that he still has what made him and us so successful in the first half of his reign. I believe weather you’re in or out with him, seeing Arsenal success is all that matters even if it means Wenger is the one overseeing it.

Now fast forward 8 months later with 2 months left in the season and he has done nothing worthy. As a fan I just can’t defend him anymore and I now understand what others have said and felt. It’s not like we woke up one day and decided after 1 season of ineptitude we want him gone. We’re not Leicester and we have our own culture.

It’s been 13 years without a major trophy and after spending close to 100 million pounds in the summer as the season progressed we’ve regressed. It is frustrating, shameless and unacceptable. We were supposed to compete with the best out there in 2014 we are 3 years removed from that year. Let’s look at what has unfolded this season:

-NO tactical flexibility, playing against top teams or bottom ones we play the same 4-2-3-1 formation. And subs that leaves you scratching your head.

-Over usage of players: Iwobi, Monreal & Coquelin. Iwobi shouldn’t be playing so much for his age when you spent 17m pounds on Perez and you have a more proven player in Welbeck sitting on the bench for example.

-Under usage of players: Perez, Gibbs, Welbeck. Be it for inexplicable resting or something else. Those players should have seen more minutes by now.

-Lack of progress: Arguably every player this season but Ozil, Ramsey & Coquelin stand out this season. Every time Coquelin has played against top teams he looks worse and worse. Ozil hasn’t replicated his form from last year and Ramsey his from 2013.

-Record against top teams & a questionable transfer policy. Also how did we allow so many players to have only 18 months left on their contracts and so much financial pull. Also the Wilshere loan deal.

-Injuries: Cazorla suffering another season ending injury. Ramsey unable to play more than 5 games in a row or Ozil not fit for the full campaign and given extra vacation

-It’s his team. He built that, from promotion to the youth squad to senior team. From transfers, loan deals and spendind on contract extension. The same recurring issues are there too: mental toughness, leadership, discipline, will to win, performing when the lights shine bright.

All in all if Wenger 2 year extension offer is based on financial success than he is more than deserving of it. We have one of the top 5 stadium revenue stream in world football, commercial deals plenty and even though we finished second we took home the most money with 100million pounds last year. And with champions league qualification we are guaranteed money maybe until this season.

But if it is based off on-field success than no. The board should be the one coming out and clarifying things sooner rather than later, not Wenger. The only thing should be that they have decided to put an end to the partnership by mutual accord. That alone would unite the fans in seeing the season out in the best possible conditions. They should apologize for the way it has gone and reassure that they will do everything in their power to put us back on the right path starting this summer. That means making an overhaul of the board as well with more football like-minded individuals and why not Arsenal legends like they do at Bayern.

On Wenger’s part he should do everything he can to finish top 4 if not for his legacy than for the one who will take over. The next manager whoever it is will need that to attract top players and attempt to retain at least one of Sanchez or Ozil if not both.

Thank you for everything you have done for this club Wenger but the time has come.

  1. Javier says:

    2nd half Arsenal 3 West Ham 0

    nothing of a accomplishment

against a poor team full of injuries

Mediocrity will continue to be the norm with Wenger in charge.

    Wenger OUT!!!!
