Lucas Perez may just be the best player to have never been given a proper chance by Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

The Frenchman is renowned for affording opportunity to players he sees as promising, particularly youngsters nurtured form the Arsenal academy.

And after signing Perez last summer, it seemed Wenger would implement the striker into a forward three alongside Sanchez and one other.

Yet to everyone’s surprise, the Gunners boss rarely utilised the man who Arsenal coughed up £17 million in order to convince Deportivo La Coruna to sell.

Perez scored 17 league goals for the La Liga outfit, but the Spaniard was handed just two Premier League starts all season for Arsenal

When provided opportunity, the hitman grasped it with both hands. He netted a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for the club and Arsenal fans should not forget his outstanding volley which played it’s part in the dramatic 3-3 draw at Bournemouth.

Perez scored 5 and assisted 3 in just 6 starts for Arsenal

Perez is now desperate to leave his Emirates nightmare and has been linked with a move back to Spain.

According to reports, his agent has flown to England to complete a deal, following the news that Arsenal’s record signing Alexandre Lacazette was sneakily handed the Spaniard’s No 9 shirt – Perez was said to be incensed after not being consulted over the decision.

All in all, it appears to be a case of mismanagement and missed opportunity on Arsene Wenger’s part – no one will really know just how good Perez could have performed in the red and white.

Gooners, how do you feel about the way Lucas Perez was handled? Have we missed out? Or has Wenger called this one right? Let us know in the comments…

We as a club have wronged this talent. We should not be boasting about our value system after what we did to Lucas.

Should off played instead of Walcott, from what I’ve seen off pre season looks like the same old same old

Should have given perez a chance , he looked useful in the games he did play…But wenger did the same with podolski , he too had talent….

I just can’t understand why Perez was not given the chance to shine. I strongly feel he was better than Welbeck and Walcot. Anytime he comes on, he makes an impact. Otherwise I just understand this. Very strange situation

With welbeck as the spearheaded and 3 behind of Sanchez left, ozil centre and Perez right, I honestly believe they would have filled their boots. Welbz wouldn’t have turned into a Kane or Costa but his unselfish game and work rate would have lent itself to the others scoring loads, especially Perez and Sanchez so him getting around say 15 would be a great return if other 3 benefited to weigh in with 50-55. The way Sanchez & Perez swapped flanks and interchanged with ozil…like having a royal flush in poker and stacking it! Similarly, welbz left and Sanchez through the middle and ee could have seriously damaged some teams with that 4!
