The former Arsenal midfielder started the war of words after suggesting Harry Redknapp is more tactically astute than Arsene Wenger.
Merson, who played more than 300 games for the Gunners during his career, made the extraordinary claim while appearing on Sky One show, A League Of Their Own, leaving Gunners fans bemused.
During his press conference today, the Arsenal manager was asked to comment on the Sky Sports pundit making a return to football, to which Wenger replied: “We speak about professional football here.”

Merson had claimed that Wenger could learn a thing or two from former Tottenham boss Redknapp.
“People say he’s [Redknapp] a wheeler-dealer and it’s so disrespectful,” Merson said on Sky One’s A League of Their Own.
“Tactically, he’s one of the best I’ve worked with. If Arsene Wenger had Harry Redknapp’s tactical nous, Arsenal would win the league.”
Wenger has lifted the Premier League three times during his Arsenal tenure, including going an entire season unbeaten.
Meanwhile Harry Redknapp who was recently sacked by Championship side Birmingham City is yet to win the Premier League.
