Arsene Wenger is relieved Arsenal have ended their run of defeats and believes the team are now looking forward.
The Gunners fell 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham after suffering their 10th defeat of the season at Brighton last weekend.
The atmosphere surrounding the club was possibly the most difficult Arsene Wenger has faced during his near 22-year tenure.
However, a 2-0 victory at the San Siro may have finally cooled Wenger’s heat. When asked if the win was just what Arsenal needed, Wenger replied: ‘Yes, and what we wanted especially.
“At some stage, you need to respond and respond together with a good performance. That’s what we did tonight.
“We have won again but we have not qualified. The result will lift the belief in the team again. When you lose three games in six days, it’s always very difficult.
“We want to keep our focus and finish the job next week. That’s what the target is.”
The Gunners are now relying on a Europa League triumph to see them make a swift return to Champions League football next season.
Wenger’s side already have one foot in the quarter-final stage.
