Arsenal players who have been offered new contracts by the club are holding talks on the understanding that Arsene Wenger is to stay.

Wenger’s current deal expires at the end of this season and no announcement has been made as to who will be in charge beyond the campaign.

However, contract talks have been held with Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and the Daily Star report the foursome have been told the Gunners boss will extend his tenure.

The Frenchman has been the subject of heavy criticism and protest from Arsenal supporters this season. Banners, placards and even planes have been displayed in opposition to the Arsenal manager.

Despite the unrest, it now appears increasingly likely that Wenger will continue at the club.

Whether that will influence this quartet of players who have just over a year left on their current deals to continue at The Emirates remains to be seen.

AW was a great manager. He’s done great things. Past tense. You’re blind if you think he will take us forward.
