Arsenal are preparing a shock move for Real Madrid star Luka Modric, according to reports in Spain.

The Gunners are in pursuit of the midfielder as Arsene Wenger draws up transfer targets in preparation for Mesut Ozil’s departure.

Modric, 31, earns £245,000 per week at the Santiago Bernabeu. He is a potential replacement for the German who has been linked with Turkish side Fenerbahce in recent weeks.

Modric’s current contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2020, though Spanish outlet Diario Gol report that Zinedine Zidane is willing to accept an offer for the Croat.

Arsenal face a battle to sign the central-midfielder. A number of top clubs including Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Siant-Germain are chasing the signature of Modric.
