Arsene Wenger believes Mesut Ozil wants to extend his stay at Arsenal.
The German has just five months to run until his current deal expires and will leave for free should he fail to sign on the dotted line.
Ozil was linked with a move to Man Utd earlier in the season, however strong rumours of a departure have disappeared in recent weeks.
It is now thought that the playmaker will sign a new deal with Arsenal. And the club’s boss is desperate to see his MVP remain a Gunner.
eaking in Friday’s press conference, Wenger said: “Not close enough to be optimistic but not far enough to be pessimistic.
“The vibe I get from his commitment, focus and desire, he behaves like someone who is ready to commit. After that, contract negotiations are what they are.
“We aren’t close enough to tell you yes, he will stay.”
Arsenal are also working on a deal for Jack Wilshere to commit his future to the club. The Englishman whose contract also expires in the summer has reportedly been offered £20,000 less than his current worth £110,000-per-week wage.
