Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville expects Arsenal to announce their replacement for Arsene Wenger in the coming days.
The club revealed that Wenger would be stepping down as manager at the end of the season, but it remains uncertain who will replace the Frenchman.
But Manchester United legend Neville believes the decision for Wenger to leave at then end of this season was actually made a year ago.
He claims Wenger’s new two-year contract that was signed last summer was a “shield” to allow Arsenal to prepare for life after the Frenchman.
Several names have been tipped to take on the mantle, including Patrick Viera, Max Allegri and Luis Enrique.
Though Neville is certain that the club know he will succeed Wenger.
He added: “Do you not think they know who the next manager will be, (Ivan) Gazidis?
“I’d be absolutely stunned and in fact that would be embarrassing if they didn’t know who the next manager is.
