Danny Welbeck scored twice as Arsenal beat Southampton 3-2 to continue their momentum heading into Thursday’s Europa League second leg at CSKA Moscow.

A familar lapse in concentration from Arsene Wenger’s side saw Southampton take the lead on 17 minutes. Shane Long snuck in between Petr Cech and Shkodran Mustafi to tap home from four yards out.

New Saints boss Mark Hughes saw his jubilation cut short when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored to equalise and keep up his goalscoring form.

Arsenal then took the lead through Danny Welbeck. The Englishman scored with a clever flick to grab his fourth of the season.

Southampton looked to have earned a point when Cedric Soares found Charlie Austin to turn in an equaliser on 73 minutes.

Welbeck then restored Arsenal’s lead heading home from close range.

A dramatic finish saw Jack Wilshere tangle with Jack Stephens Рthe Saints man was shown a straight red, while Mohamed Elneny was also dismissed for a push to the face.
