Arsenal ‘keeper Emiliano Martinez has joined Getafe on loan, the club have confirmed.

Martinez was expected to be afforded limited game time this season, particularly after David Ospina confirmed his commitment to the club.

The Argentine made just five appearances for the Gunners last season and a loan move would certainly benefit him more than propping up the bench.

Martinez will likely have his hands full next season. Getafe have just been promoted to La Liga after a season in the second tier of Spanish football.

The 24 year-old says he hopes to return to North London and challenge for the number one spot after his spell in Spain.

“I came from nothing and I’m at Arsenal now, one of the biggest clubs in the world, but I’m never satisfied,” he told Arsenal Player.

“I was third choice fighting for second spot, so maybe the season after I will fight for number one. You always need to give more at Arsenal. It’s never enough and that’s what I try to do.”

If he succeeds in Spain, the shot-stopper should fancy his chances upon return to The Emirates. Wojciech Szczesny has departed for Juventus and at 35, Petr Cech is not getting any younger.

Best of luck, Emi.
