Arsene Wenger has revealed that Lucas Perez will definitely leave Arsenal this summer.
The Arsenal boss admitted that the want-away striker is seeking a move away after barely featuring for the Gunners last term. According to reports, Perez has handed in a formal transfer request.
The £17 million man endured a frustrating debut season with Arsenal after arriving from Deportivo La Coruna last summer.
Despite impressing when deployed, Perez continued to be bottom of the striker’s pecking order, behind Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck. His mistreatment was recognised by Arsenal fans, many of whom had called for the 28 year-old to be given a proper opportunity.
But the moment never materialised and the forward is not taking any chances with the idea of propping up the bench this season.
When asked whether he sees the player’s future elsewhere, Wenger’s response was frank.
‘Yes, because we have a congestion of strikers. I don’t like to lose him because, for me, he’s a top-quality striker, but we have many strikers,’ said the boss (via Evening Standard).
‘At some stage, too much competition is not competition anymore. You cannot give a chance to everybody, so if he finds a satisfying solution, at least for a short time, he will do it.’
