On Tuesday it was reported that West Ham United have enquired over the possible signing of Lucas Perez.

The Arsenal striker has very much been a bit part player this season with limited opportunities to impress thrown his way.

Reports over the weekend suggest the 28 year-old is keen for an Emirates exit. According to The Times, the Hammers are ready to swoop in for the out of favour striker.

When utilised, Perez has shown glimpses of real quality. Arsenal fans have been calling for the Spaniard to receive more regular game time with the hashtag ‘#FreeLucas’.

Yet following another start from the bench against Lincoln City, it appears Arsene Wenger has no desire to play the £17m summer signing.

Last season at Deportivo, Perez netted 17 La Liga goals for the Spanish outfit. And the forward has seven goals and three assists in just seven starts for Wenger’s side.

Should he be allowed to leave?

no..I like Perez, he is a good player but wenger is limiting him..he should be patient..and boss should give him more games..

lucas should stay and allow him to prove himself by giving that chance to do that

No …. Giroud should leave while we can still get a few £million for him. It won’t be much because he can’t run.

Wenger’s reasons feel more like an excuse than a valid reason. Let’s take each player that he refers to individually and see whether Perez should start ahead of them or not. The first to consider is Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean is the first name on the teamsheet and Perez will never beat him out, however hard he may try.

Nonetheless, if Sanchez is deployed as the central striker, then there are still two wide roles to compete for. Danny Welbeck is still easing his way back into contention after an extended absence, Theo Walcott has been inconsistent since returning from his own injury issues, while Olivier Giroud can only be stationed centrally. Add to this the terrible performances of Alex Iwobi of late, and, while there is competition in numbers in the Arsenal squad, the quality does not match that of Perez’s recent displays.

Get Lucas Perez in tyhe starting line up now Wenger OUT!!!

  5. Javier says:

He has put in a string of excellent performances consecutively now, and there has been growing pressure for the Spaniard to be given more game time.
