According to Squawka, Former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is being chased by Watford.

The centre-back who left for Barcelona for £15m in 2014 made just 11 La Liga appearances following a dreadful run of injuries.

Injury setbacks have continued for the 31 year-old during his loan spell at Roma this season. However, reports suggest that Watford are keen to bring the experienced defender in on loan to bolster their defensive options.

Prior to his move to the Nou Camp, ‘the Verminator’ made his name at The Emirates after being recruited by Arsene Wenger in 2009.

The Belgian featured in 110 league games for the Gunners in his five year spell, scoring 13 goals, but fell down the pecking order after Wenger took a liking to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny’s partnership.

The suggestions are that the ex-Gunners star is interested in a move back to the Premier League.

Despite the injury problems, Vermaelen has still notched up 58 appearances for his national side.
