Arsenal legend Paul Merson says his old side needs to buy at least three new players this summer.
Arsenal have fallen behind rivals this season and looks set for their finish finish outside of the top four for 21 years.
Despite this season’s heavy protests from fans, Arsene Wenger is expected to sign a two-year contract in the coming weeks.
And Merson says the Frenchman needs to get the chequebook out if the Gunners are to compete next season,
“If he stays for me they need a centre-half, they need a holding midfield player and a centre-forward which is the spine, which is always worrying.
“That is one thing you always need if you want to be champions of any country. He needs to do that.”
The former England international went on to declare that the possibility of Europa League next season would benefit his old side.
“The thing is, the next season they will be in the Europa League it looks like, if the results go the way they should.
“That might enhance their chances instead of the last 10 or 20 years where they’ve played every Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday.
