Arsenal seemingly arrived at Wembley without a game plan and their feeble attempt to stop Man City was routinely navigated by the league leaders who ran out 3-0 winners.
The loss condemned Arsene Wenger to his third League Cup final defeat, while he is still yet to pick up a winner’s medal.
In the build up to the opening goal, defender Shkodran Mustafi was nudged by Sergio Aguero. Mustafi’s wasted appeals for a free-kick allowed the Argentinian to race through to loop the ball David Ospina.
Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville slammed Mustafi for his defensive error.
He said: ‘For a centre back to claim that as a foul is absolutely terrible defending. It’s woeful from Mustafi.
‘I’m not having that as a foul. It’s just really bad. It’s schoolboy stuff. It really is just shocking defending in all forms of football.’
Neville was furious at Arsenal’s performance, suggesting that Arsene Wenger’s side weren’t up for the fight. He later criticised Arsenal players for walking on the pitch.
“They are an absolute disgrace they are, walking on a football pitch at Wembley, giving up. Spineless.
“This is a dark, dark day. The team have just not shown up.
“There’s nothing I’ve liked about this Arsenal performance – not one single thing.”
