Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has been ruled out for up to six months.
The France international who has has endured a number of injuries to his achilles ruptured the tendon 12 minutes into Arsenal’s Europa League semi-final second leg defeat by Atletico Madrid last Thursday.
Koscileny is now set to miss the World Cup in Russia, but could also miss half of the 2018/19 season.
As reported by the BBC, speaking after Arsenal’s 5-0 demolition of Burnley, Wenger said:
“You will not see him until December at best,” said Wenger.
“Koscielny is devastated.
“People have always inflamed tendons but they don’t rupture but in his case it went. I don’t know why.
“The recovery will be full because the advantage of surgery is that it heals the inflammation.”
Koscielny, 33, had been tipped to leave Arsenal this summer. However, with the defender set to miss the next 6 months through injury he’s now likely to remain in north London.
