Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji has conceded his side missed out by not signing Stephan Lichsteiner.
The Swiss completed his move to Arsenal this week on a free transfer from Juventus – the deal will be completed when his contract expires at the end of this month.
Since he arrived in 2011, Lichsteiner has been an integral part of the Juve side to win seven Serie A titles on the bounce.
Dortmund were also interested in signing the 34 year-old and did have talks with him over a move to Germany, but Lichtsteiner eventually decided to move to England with Arsenal.
And compatriot Akanji has conceded that he would have loved to have played alongside the veteran full-back.
“Stephan is a player of immense quality and experience,’ said the Dortmund defender (via Inside Futbol).
“He was with Juventus for a long time, played two Champions League finals, won numerous trophies and is the captain of the national team.
“He always performs.”
Many Arsenal fans are anticipating Lichsteiner to use his experience to improve Hector Bellerin. The right-back struggled for consistency last term.
