According to reports, Barcelona have curtailed their pursuit of Nice ace John-Michael Seri, leaving the door open for Arsenal to sign the midfielder.

The Ivory Coast international turned heads last season after a superb campaign for the Ligue 1 side. Seri netted seven and assisting nine as Nice finished third in the French top division.

Arsenal are suggested to be keen on bringing the 24 year-old to The Emirates this summer, though a move appeared less likely after Barcelona entered the race to sign him.

However, Mundo Deportivo report that the Catalans have ended their interest, citing a reluctance to pay Seri’s £36m release clause.

The central-midfielder recently confirmed the speculation linking him with a move away, but revealed he would only leave the south of France side for first-team action.

‘There are a lot of clubs that follow me. But there is nothing done,’ said Seri.

‘If I leave, it will be to join a club where there is a real desire to play football as in Nice.

‘And I’m not going to be on the bench, I’m leaving only if I know I’m going to play.’

Gooners, do you want to see Seri in an Arsenal shirt? Let us know in the comments…
