Arsene Wenger was reportedly denied a January pursuit of Anthony Martial.
The 68 year-old, who managed the north Londoners for the final time last weekend was said to be a huge admirer of his French compatriot.
However, despite the Gunners’ boss’ best attempts to lure the player to the Emirates, Arsenal transfer chief Sven Mislintat, who joined the club earlier this season as head of recruitment, wanted the Gunners to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan from the Red Devils instead, according to the Daily Star.
Calciomercato are among the sources at the moment stating that Martial could be available for transfer this summer after a difficult season at Old Trafford.
Martial has struggled for regular football this season having started less than half of Man Utd’s league games.
The Gunners could revive their interest in the 22 year-old who continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford. That’s despite Mkhitaryan making a positive start to life in north London.
