Alexis Sanchez is reportedly demanding a staggering £400,000-a-week to sign a new deal, but what is Arsenal’s best course of action?
The Chilean is at a stand off with the club, with the Gunners only willing to pay him £275,000-a-week.
The suggestions are that Arsene Wenger is prepared to maintain Sanchez’s services this season, despite the forward having just one year to run on his current deal.
After completing the signing of Alexandre Lacazette, the Gunners are now closing in on a deal for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
It makes for a mouthwatering forward line, should Sanchez remain in the side. The 28 year-old netted 31 times for Wenger’s side last season, while Lacazette was prolific for Lyon, scoring 37 in 45.
To give in to Sanchez’s wage demands would likely cause tension amongst the squad.
Meust Ozil is currently Arsenal’s highest paid player, but the German’s deal stands at £140,000-per-week – a blemish on his teammates demands.
The question is, should Arsene Wenger give Sanchez what he wants? If so, he could potentially turn the club into world beaters next season. But if he chooses to hold the forward to his current contract, he risks losing him for free next summer.
Wenger could of course cash in on the Chilean in this window. Manchester City have a keen on eye on him, but Arsenal fans will be hoping to see the forward leave for a club abroad as opposed to a domestic rival.
Should Sanchez depart, Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez is desperate to move to the Gunners. The Algerian has claimed he has an agreement with the Foxes to allow him to leave this summer.
But the £50m evaluation for the 2016 PFA Player of the Year has put Arsenal off a move.
