Arsenal’s Wembley winning streak continues after a Community Shield penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea.

Arsene Wenger’s first XI raised a few eyebrows. Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey were both missing after struggling with injuries, while Alexis Sanchez was not yet ready to turn out for the Gunners

Alex Iwobi and Mohamed Elneny were given run outs, while club record signing Alexandre Lacazette lead from the front.

After a tight first half, Chelsea broke the deadlock a minute after the restart. Victor Moses prodding home from close range for the Premier League champions.

Chelsea winger Pedro saw red on 80 minutes after a late tackle on Mohamed Elneny. The resulting free-kick saw Granit Xhaka’s lofted delivery headed home by Sead Kolasinac to take the match to penalties.

The new ABBA format for penalties saw Theo Walcott, Nacho Monreal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud all score for the Gunners. But Thibaut Courtois blazed his over the bar and new signing Alvaro Morata also missed for the Blues.

It’s now nine victories in a row at the national stadium and a positive start for Arsene Wenger’s side, who will be aiming for plenty more silverware this season.
