The agent of Mesut Ozil has hinted that his client could still extend his stay with Arsenal.
Arsenal’s No 10 has entered the final year of his contract and will be able to walk for free come the end of the season.
The Gunners and Ozil’s advisors have not held contract negotiations since March after Arsenal failed to match Ozil’s £330,000-per-week wage demands. However, his agent Erkut Sogut has now suggested talks with Arsenal are progressing.
He told Fanatik: ‘He wants to play in Premier League for at least 2-3 years. Our contacts with Arsenal continue and we are going in the positive direction.’
It could lead to miraculous u-turn from the player who appeared dead set on leaving The Emirates. The German has been linked with a move to Manchester United, with boss Jose Mourinho keen on reuniting with his former Real Madrid ace.
If Ozil does commit and Arsenal have a successful season, it may also see Alexis Sanchez reconsider his decision to quit the club.
Gooners, are you happy for Ozil to stay? Let us know in the comments…
